Sovereign Movements: Native Dance and Decolonization

Rosy Simas (Haudenosaunee, Seneca, Heron Clan) is an indigenous contemporary dance choreographer based in Minneapolis. In addition to talking about her artistic work, she will be discussing her edited collection Sovereign Movements: Native Dance and Performance (2019). This is a collection of essays written by Native and Indigenous dance makers and choreographers to reflect about their artistic experiences and the historical conditions that inform/shape their work. This event is co-sponsored by the Dark Laboratory and is part of the seminar The Politics of Movement: Bodies, Space, and Motion.
